NISHKAAM KARMYOGI.
Once I noticed a portrait of a saintly looking elderly gentleman done by my father, Late Mohan Raina.I asked ,"Dad Whose portrait is this .Is he someone from our ancestors ?
Dad answered,"No, but he occasionally would meet Bobji(Pt.Shiv Nath Raina) in our old DEWAN KHAN. His disposition and personality impressed me and later on I did this portrait".
He is Late Pt. KESHAV BHAT JYOTSHI.
He is the original compiler of our KARM KAND. He was a Karm yogi and a Jyotshi in true sense. He is the one who prepared a detailed KARM KAND for us wherein he has given and explained in details various rituals to be followed ,be it " MEKHAL(Sacred thread, Jenyu ceremony)
MARRIAGE, DEATH or ANY OTHER RITUAL amonst KASHMIRI PANDITS.
Present day so called Jyotshis are all following his basics with some distortion or alterations.
Pt.Kehav Bhat started a printing press under the name and style of ,"KRISHNA PRINTING PRESS" On MAULANA AZAD ROAD, opp. Present Women's College.
He would always walk on foot from his residence at Jogilankar ,Rainawari with ,"PULHOR"(Foot wear made of dry grass)in his feet. He travelled on foot as far as NUNAR from Rainawari to teach and impart SANSKRIT Language and Religious Rituals to Pandit students studying in PATHSHALAS which were opened during Dogra Rule.
His PHERAN (outer sleeved loose cloak worn by Kashmiris) pockets used to be full of CHANA(Gram)and SweetSHEERINwhich he distributed amongst his students and other people irrespective of their caste or religion.
His printing press was later managed by his son, Sh.Shambu Nath Jyotshi who used to run a stationery shop also.
I am told that the family sold off the printing press and other property during Militancy and left the place for good.
This is the only photograph of the saintly
KESHAV BHAT, I could find.
