DR.Shashi Shekhar Toshkani_The man who
literally brought Hindi to Kashmir and
Kashmiri to the world of Hindi readers by his cross language
translations.
A living authority on Kashmir's
Culture, History, Sharda and
Sanskrit language. Dr.Toshkhani is
held in highest esteem not only in
India but by so many Indologists in
Europe and America.
He is a family friend who has been
a frequent visitor to our place.
During my interaction, Toshkhani
Sahab says ,
" As regards script for Kashmiri
Language is concerned, both the
scripts, that is Devnagri and Sharda
have same vowels and consonants
but the writing is different.
Lot of study has been done on
Sharda in European countries also.
In fact a few years back an Indian by
the name of Anshuman Pandey did
a thorough study along with two
associates in Germany. The script
was transferred to digital format also. Sharda script is useful if you
wish to study, know ,translate or
decipher our ancient texts and
manuscripts because these all are
written in Sharda. For the survival, propagation and day to day writing
in Kashmiri Language, Devnagri is
The best option "

I wish to clarify that I am not doing
a bio sketch on Dr. Shashi Shekhar
Toshkhani because so much has
been said about him in journals,
magazines, periodicals and Internet.
